Saudi Arabia listed feminism, atheism, and homosexuality as forms of extremism. In Saudi Arabia, extremism is synonymous with terrorism. The ministry of Interior defines terrorism as "calling for deviant thought in any form, or calling into question the fundamentals of the Islamic religion on which this country is based". Opposition to the totalitarian monarchy is also labeled as terrorism, and is punishable by beheading. Such "extremist behavior" is grounds for imprisonment and flogging, the government-aligned newspaper Al Watan reminded readers in a follow up report on Monday.
