Terrorism police list Extinction Rebellion as extremist ideology

Terrorism police list Extinction Rebellion as extremist ideologyPolice scramble to recall guide issued to teachers putting climate activists alongside far-right groups
Counter-terrorism police placed the non-violent group Extinction Rebellion (XR) on a list of extremist ideologies that should be reported to the authorities running the Prevent programme, which aims to catch those at risk of committing atrocities. The climate emergency campaign group was included in a 12-page guide produced by counter-terrorism police in the south-east titled "Safeguarding young people and adults from ideological extremism". The guidance warns of "people speaking in strong or emotive terms about environmental issues like climate change, ecology, species extinction, fracking, airport expansion or pollution". In the guide, people are advised to listen and look out for young people who "neglect to attend school" or "participate in planned school walkouts" – an allusion to the school strikes for the climate, a global movement of which the teenage Swedish activist Greta Thunberg is a lead proponent. Thousands of UK pupils, and millions worldwide, walked out of school last year in protest at government inaction on the climate crisis. It is clear that this guidance is written with one thing in mind - Protecting the interests and profits of major corporations with interests in gas and oil. We are led by sociopaths and their ecocidal enablers who don't see what is coming next: Heat. Floods. Fire. Storms. Pestilence. Killer smoke. Climate refugees. Businesses and employment destroyed. And corporate greed is doing anything to muzzle any civil organization that takes action to uphold democracy and our right to participate in decisions about our lives and environment, to protect the human dignity of every single one of us, to protect the environment and to save lives. Harassment and invasion of the private lives of young climate campaigners is a price the police are willing to pay. These kinds of politics are almost as terrifying as the climate at the moment and just as deadly. Like many people, I feel more and more like I’m living in some dystopian fire globe. There is a fascist tilt in UK's ruling elites, especially among conservatives that scares me as does the American version of fascism that we have witnessed recently in the Republican party. When showing public emotion whilst facing the dangers of a scorched Earth is considered to be a crime, I wonder how far have we come! The scientific consensus on climate emergency is genuinely terrifying. What the government need to do is look responsibly at how to help the population develop emotional resilience and understanding, whilst it takes effective action on climate crisis rather than putting a gag on peaceful activists who advocate for a safer, better environment than the one our capitalistic civilization is destroying. Police say the guide has been recalled.
