Mississippi flag comes down after vote to remove Confederate emblem

Mississippi flag comes down after vote to remove Confederate emblemFeaturing an overt confederate battle emblem, the state flag was the only one left in the country that evoked the dark and painful history of slavery and white supremacy. It was a monument to oppression and the racial clivages in the American society.
After 126 years, Mississippi House and Senate have voted to remove permanently the state flag. It's a historic moment for the state. But racism, voter suppression and de facto Jim Crow are still prevalent. Modern social and economic standards need to be met so that there is education and healthcare for all, modern infrastructure and good jobs.
