Dr. Anthony Fauci, United States top medical expert on the coronavirus pandemic and a member of Donald Trump's coronavirus task force, is facing threats to his personal safety. He has requested personal security from law enforcement at all times, including at his home. Washington, DC, Metropolitan Police Department is stationed at all times around Fauci's home. Dr. Fauci is the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. He has advocated strong social distancing measures to slow the spread of the coronavirus and appears regularly at the White House's daily news briefings on the pandemic, sometimes contradicting Trump's suggestions along the way. "I mean, the idea of someone who's asymptomatic shedding high titers of virus is very disturbing -- because that person could be out there, feeling well, and inadvertently and innocently spreading the infection," Fauci said in an attempt to explain why social distancing was necessary in order to contain the spread of the virus. He has predicted that the US is going to have millions of coronavirus cases and many deaths: "Looking at what we're seeing now, you know, I would say between 100 and 200,000 (deaths). But I don't want to be held to that," he said, adding that the US is going to have "millions of cases." The comments come as the number of reported coronavirus deaths reach more than 5,883 nationwide. The US has the most confirmed cases worldwide, with more than 244,230 as of April 2, 2020. Worldwide, there have been at least 1,011,544 cases confirmed and 52,870 deaths reported. There are suspicions that the death threats are coming from right-wing extremists who are against his growing popularity because of the social distancing measures stepped up by US authorities with his advisory role as an infectious diseases expert in order to limit the spread of the pandemic. Some in far-right or fringe conspiracy websites have sought to cast him as an admirer of Hillary Clinton and a member of the 'deep-state' resistance out to undermine Trump. "(He) doesn't need security...", Trump said during a White House coronavirus task force briefing with reporters on Wednesday, April 2, 2020. In Trump's own inner circle, some have voiced opinions that go against recommendations of experts and other people dealing hands-on with the pandemic. Among them is Jared Kushner, Trump's top aid and son-in-law, who, de facto has replaced the Pandemic Response Team. "We've done things that the government has never done before quicker than they've ever done it before," Kushner said about the Trump's administration handling of the coronavirus crisis. "I know how to make this government run now... I've gotten a lot smarter about this... New York doesn't need all these ventilators", Kushner rebuked New York governor's statement during an emotional interview in which he said the state was short of 30,000 ventilators.
